A former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, has stressed the need for Tiv people in Benue State and their age-long friends of Fulani extraction not to compromise their unity.
Bafarawa spoke yesterday in Makurdi when he led a team of his associates to condole with Governor Samuel Ortom over the killings of 73 citizens on New Year’s day by gunmen.
He described the killings as politically-motivated, noting that Fulani herders who resided with the Tiv people in those days are known to carry sticks to shepherd their cows.
The former governor however explained that unity must not be comprised as Tiv and Fulani are one, lived together with understanding for a very long time. He also insisted on the need for the Federal Government to make more efforts in ensuring peace in all parts of the federation where there are challenges of herders/farmers crise, as he also noted that there will be no elections in 2019 across Nigeria if the needed peace is not restored.
Governor Ortom thanked his guests for the visit, and emphasised that the challenge was of national concern.
