Ramadan: Media urged on nation building

The Chairman of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) Abuja chapter, Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun has urged the nation’s media to use the occasion of this year’s Ramadan Fast to improve on the societal role to better the lots of the citizenry.

Balogun who gave the advice Friday, in Abuja, said that the new challenges in the Niger-Delta is adding to the catalogue of existing challenges the present administration is trying to tackle, hence the need for the media to help in this course.

“There is no better time than now for the media to be at the fore front of positively contributing to tackling the multi-faceted socio-economic and political challenges facing the country. We all know the importance of media in shaping opinion of the leaders and the led. All hands must then be on deck to renew our approach to tackling the challenges,” Balogun said.  

Speaking on the forthcoming 10th annual Ramadan public lecture at the Conference Hall of the Abuja National Mosque on June 19, the MMPN boss said five governors of Niger, Kogi, Kaduna, Katsina and Nasarawa states will join other stakeholders to discuss peace at the event.

He said other stakeholders who will discuss the theme “Peace as a Catalyst for Development, the Media Challenge” are Alhaji Muhammad Bello, Minister of FCT as the chief host and Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture as special guest of honour.

Balogun said the topic was carefully selected to proffer solutions to the challenges facing the country in having everlasting peace geared towards development.
