Ogoni cleanup: ‘Govt on right path to sustainable environment’

The Head of Learning and Studies of Premiere Academy, Lugbe, Mr John Ogungbenro, has said the commencement of Ogoni land cleaning exercise by the federal government is a proper step towards achieving a sustainable environment.
He described the action as very appropriate, adding that it met the agitation of all of the Niger Delta people as the environment was severely polluted and becoming unproductive.
Ogungbenro stated this in Abuja when the school marked the World Environment Day in collaboration with Shell Oil Company.
He said majority of the communities were aqua culture people and lived by what was produced in the environment, noting that with the environment damaged, it meant the resources they harnessed to make their own living was going away.
He said: “What the federal government set out to do is a notable step in the right direction. It shows that they are supporting the people’s plight, agitations and committing themselves to the cleaning up of Ogoni land.”
“If Ogoni is cleaned up, the nation is going to be cleaned up because that is going to spread to other areas across the country; we need a cleaned up environment for sustainability,” he said.
