13 killed as rival cult groups clash in Idah

At least 13 persons have been killed at Idah, headquarters of Idah local government area of Kogi State following series of clashes amongst rival cult groups in the area.

Daily Trust learnt that trouble started on Friday night when one Danjuma Amodu, popularly known as Murphy, was gunned down while relaxing in front of his family house at GRA Idah, by members of a suspected cult group.
It was gathered that the development sparked off reprisal attacks as gun wielding cult members said to have driven in a Volkswagen Golf held the town to hostage shooting sporadically for several hours.
The gunmen were reported to have blocked the road between Ibro Junction and Bishop Road Junction between the hours of 8am and 10am from where they proceeded to a drinking joint at Igalaogba in search of their targets.
Our correspondent gathered that the owner of the joint, Haruna Achema and his wife were shot while a customer was killed instantly.
Daily Trust learnt that 8 persons were killed at Idah waterside while another woman was felled by a stray bullet.
Following the development, a detachment of military personnel is said to be patrolling the streets of the town.
When contacted, the Kogi State Police Commissioner, Mr  Yakubu Usman confirmed the cult clashes.
