The abductors of the wife of the incumbent chairman of Abaji Area Council, Abuja, Hajiya Khadeejat Yahaya Garba, are demanding for the sum of N50 million before she will be released.
Daily Trust had reported that the Hajiya Khadeejat was kidnapped in the wee hours of last Tuesday at her husband’s Gigbe village by some suspected gunmen.
A family source, who preferred anonymity confided in our reporter on Sunday that the abductors have been threatening the family to pay the sum of N50 million through a phone call from an undisclosed place, otherwise, they won’t release her.
He disclosed that the council chairman has been disturbed over the amount the abductors have been demanding, even as he claimed that the chairman has no such money.
"It was the next day when the kidnappers took her away to an unknown destination they have been making phone calls demanding for N50 million, before they will release her. But the husband is seriously worried where he would get such money from. In fact, they do call sometimes and later switched off their phones since the next day they abducted her, "he said.
According to him, the council chairman has been running helter skelter meeting with FCT police commissioner and other top security agents in order to ensure that his wife was released unharmed.
When contacted, the FCT police commissioner, Mr Wilson Inalegwu, told our reporter on phone that he was not aware of any ransom being demanded by the abductors, saying his men were making efforts to ensure the chairman’s was released safely.
