Land dispute claims 7 lives in Kebbi

Seven people have been killed in a farmland dispute between members of Rumu and Isgogo communities at Kubula village in Zuru local government area of Kebbi State.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, the clash which started on Sunday between the two communities was as a result of the lingering land dispute in the area. “It was regrettable that seven people were killed in the dispute,” he said.
The two communities of Rumu and Isgogo have been fighting each other for some years now over the ownership of the disputed farmland which the two are laying claims to.
According to insider sources, the recent clash started when members of one of the warring communities invaded the other on Sunday, resulting in the deaths and destruction of properties.
An eyewitness, Sani Skandi who spoke to our correspondent on the clash said over 15 people died. “I counted over 15 bodies. But if they told you only seven people were killed, so be it,” he said.  
The state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ismaila Yombe Dabai who visited the communities in dispute said the government would take appropriate measures and find lasting solution to the crisis.
