Over 10,000 families have benefitted from the N15,000 conditional cash transfer meant to enhance girl-child education in Sokoto state.
Chairman of Gwadabawa Microfinance Bank, Alhaji Musa Lumu, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen.
"With this support, parents would be enticed to send their children to school, especially girl-child rather than using for hawking," he said
He added that it would equally promote self-serving solutions for backwardness in girl child education especially in the rural areas.
He explained that each family was given N15,000 to start small businesses in order to sustain their families and provide their girl-child with school kits.
Lumu stated that the Sokoto State Government provided N500m as counterpart funding to UNICEF Projects education component to sustain cash transfer among other interventions and ensure security of the children towards realising their educational dreams.
He commended Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for investing so much on education.
