Soldiers of 102 Battalion of the elite Guards Brigade emerged winners of the 2016 ‘Corporal Below’ competition organized by the Commandant of the Brigade, Brigadier General Musa Yusuf.
The three days competition involved teams of soldiers selected from five battalions that make up the Brigade, showing expertise and speed in Weapons Handling, Map Reading, Obstacle Crossing and Drills.
Presenting a trophy to the winners of the competition, at the Mambila Barracks in Abuja, the Commandant of the Brigade, General Yusuf said the competition is an important aspect of military training, aimed at enhancing troop’s physical fitness and combat survival.
He said it is also to instill team spirit, self confidence, leadership, endurance, cooperation and comradeship among troops.
Speaking to Journalists on the sidelines of the occasion, the Commander, 102 Battalion Colonel Suleiman Tilawan praised the Brigade Commandant for initiating new steps that has made the competition a fierce contest.
Tilawan explained that the Commandant randomly selects soldiers from the nominal roll of the Battalions which makes up the team that competes on behalf of the Battalion.
