The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) yesterday called on the Federal Government to reinstate the 13 vice chancellors and 12 Governing Councils of universities sacked recently.
The National President of the Association, Comrade Tijjani Usman Shehu, said at a media briefing in Abuja that the ministry of education should reinstate the councils and VCs following President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent apology on the matter, saying that mistakes were made in the decision to sack the VCs and the councils.
He said “the unjustly sacked VCs should be reinstated immediately in consonance with Mr. President’s apology and spelt out university rules.
“If any of the VCs affected has not completed his tenure, the procedure as spelt out by universities’ rules should be followed for the appointment of new VCs.”
The students also said confusion ensued in the universities following the abrupt dissolution of the councils and termination of VCs’ appointments.
