The village head of Shamaki in Gassol chiefdom of Taraba state Bala Nabath has been murdered by suspected armed robbers. The village head was killed along the Sabon Gida -Nanguru road on Sunday evening, Daily Trust learnt.
Mr. Nabath was shot on the back when he ran into the gang who mounted a road block during their operation which lasted several hours on the road, our correspondent reports. The victim was travelling along with his family to a wedding ceremony in a neighbouring village in Bali local government area.
He was rushed to a hospital in Tella village where he was confirmed dead as a result of losing excess blood.
The bandits it was gathered made away with seven motorcycles and millions of naira belonging to cattle dealers who were returning from the Tella weekly market.
The chairman of Gassol local government council Alhaji Tukura Bashiru confirmed the incident to Daily Trust. He said Sabon Gida-Nanguru, Sabon Gida, Sansani-Sabon Gida and Sansani Dinya routes were under the siege of armed bandits.
Alhaji Tukura called on the Taraba state government to establish a joint police –vigilante patrol team to monitor the routes on 24 hours basis.
