Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has rained curses on those who perpetrated the recent killings of over 73 people in some Local Government Areas of the state.
Ortom who pronounced the curses on Monday at an emergency stakeholders meeting in Makurdi, also included the sponsors of the dastard killings as he prayed that they would never know peace.
"Like i said during the memorial service, I will repeat it again, all those who failed to act on those letters that could have stopped the killings will one day account for the blood of our lost ones. They will account for the blood of those 73 victims buried in mass grave on the day of reckoning. Those pepetrartors and their sponsors will not know peace," he said.
The governor added that those people accusing him of sponsoring 6000 armed militia are shamelessly diverting attention from the reality of the Benue invasion as he questioned the inability of the federal government not to have arrested and prosecuted them.
He noted, "it is not just enough to identify the Islamic state as being behind the killings, they should arrest them and prosecute them. And those accusing me of using this crisis to achieve political means in 2019 should look for something else because they are not Benue indigenes and they are on their own."
Ortom however commended the security operatives deployed to the state as he stressed that their coming had reduced crisis in the state but worried that tension was building up at the Agatu axis of the state following pressure by some armed herders to cross over the River Benue from the Nasarawa side into the area to openly graze their animals.
"We have a law in Benue state and no herder is expected to openly graze their cattle. Doing so would be violating the law; they would be arrested and prosecuted. Our people were still harvesting their farm produce when the current crisis happened and we hope that the matter is resolved quickly so that they can return to their homes," the governor posited.
