The General Secretary, Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), Musa Yahaya, has appealed to the Federal Government to help in the area of training and retraining of members on the modern best practice in automobile industry for the benefit of the country.

Yahaya, who made the call in Benin while speaking to journalists during the association’s delegate election, said the training and retraining would help build the automobile industry.

“The basic problem of the automobile technicians is training and retraining to meet the dynamism of the industry. Before, we detect fault through try and error but now you use machine to detect fault and solve it,” he said.

According to him, National Automobile Council has been helping in that direction but those trained are very minimal compared to numbers of the association`s members across the country.

“So, I expect the incoming executive to liaise with the council so that our members would be trained on the modern best practices in the automobile industry so that vehicles can be serviced in Nigeria,” he said.

Yahaya further appealed to the Federal Government to inject more fund in the automobile council so that it can fulfill its responsibility of training and retraining of informal sectors.

He also called on government to establish a well-developed work station (mechanic village) inside the city with all the facilities so that people can easily access them, noting that putting them on the outskirts of the city is affecting them.

The General Secretary added that the work station  will help the government in revenue generation and knowing the statistics of technicians.

Also speaking, NATA Edo State chairman, Felix Irabor, noted that if trained and given financial help, NATA will have the capacity and capability to build all component of automobile.
