A police corporal, Ibrahim Surajo, attached to the central police division In Katsina was killed by gunmen yesterday and his rifle stolen, Daily Trust reports
Surajo, alongside others, were said to be on duty at a stop and search point along Katsina/Kano road at about 8.30pm when the incident happened.
Confirming the incident, the police command spokesman, DSP Gambo Isa, said the gunmen came in a black Golf Volkswagen car.
He said Surajo had stepped into a nearby supermarket to charge his mobile phone when the gunmen opened fire on him killing him instantly.
He said, the command had received vital information and is working on it to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended.
It would be recalled that a similar attack occurred last October at the residence of a former Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Coomassie, were a police sergeant, Musa Ibrahim, was killed and his rifle stolen, while Corporal Shitu Maikudi was shot and injured in the attacked.
