Edo SUBEB tackles land grabbing

Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) is working with the state Police Command to curb theft and destruction of classroom facilities as well as encroachment and unlawful acquisition of school land.

The partnership will include the provision of security in schools.

 SUBEB acting chairperson and Special Adviser to the Governor on Basic Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, disclosed this after a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, at the weekend in Benin.

 Dr. Oviawe said SUBEB is taking necessary action to secure infrastructure as vandalism and theft of in schools have become worrisome, noting that collaboration with the police will help to secure school property.

 “The rate at which facilities are destroyed and stolen in public schools is disturbing to the government. We are partnering with the police to assist us in tackling the ugly trend,” she said. 

She said some materials stolen from public school were found in some private schools.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Kokumo assured that the command would do its best to stop the ugly trend.
