The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra state has said that a total of twenty-one crashes were recorded during the Christmas celebrations in the state.
The state Corps Commander, Mr. Sunday Ajayi who made the disclosure in Awka on Tuesday, revealed that out of the crashes, five of them were fatal and eleven lives were lost in the crashes.
He further said 70 motorists were arrested for overloading, adding that robust enforcement embarked upon by the officers and men of the corps made them to adjust accordingly.
"The usual gridlock usually experienced along the Niger bridge by motorists during the period was drastically reduced due to massive deployment of officers and men of the corps as well as sister security agencies," he added.
He also said all obstructions on the bridge as well as other strategic locations were removed before the celebrations.
Ajayi however appealed to motorists and other road users in the state to continue to obey traffic rules and regulations to ensure safety on the roads in the state.
