The incessant killings by the suspected “gunmen” and Fulani herdsmen in Rivers, Kaduna, Bornu, Plateau and Adamawa are inhumane and uncalled for.

The killing of the unarmed and innocent Nigerians is on the alarming rate and as such called for immediate government intervention in order for it not to escalate a war.

It is no longer news that one of the constituted duties of every leader is to provide adequate security for its citizens. In a community where the environment and the citizens are not secured, it does not only portend negative effects on its economy but also on the overall sectors of such a community.

Just at the infantry stage of this year, at midnight of January 1, it was reported that over 17 “The Lord’s Chosen” worshipers returning from their crossover service in Rivers were coldblooded murdered by an unknown gunmen. The questions to be asked in that regard is, who are these blood thirsty unknown gunmen that are solely after the lives of citizens? Have any of these evil perpetrators been brought to book?

Where is the hideout of these vampires?

What is the work of the legions of security personal we have in this country? These and many more questions begged for answers.

As if that was not enough; a day after, the same militia attacked, massacred and butchered scores of people in Tomater village in Sengev Council ward, Akor village in Nzorov council ward and Bakin Kwata village in Umanger council ward of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State and left several others injured. This carnage as reported by the media occurred barely two days after some assailants struck at Ikpele and Okpopolo communities in the same state, killing seven farmers and left several other inhabitants displaced.

These are clear indications to the fact that citizens are no longer safe in their respective habitats; farmers are no longer safe in their farms; motorists, businessmen and women are no longer safe on the highways and even students are no longer secured in their respective school environments.

To tame these menace however, government as matter of urgency must empower and liaise with local hunters in order to locate and know the hideout of these evil perpetrators (gunmen) and community police station should be allowed as well.

As for the Fulani herdsmen, onus is also on the relevant stakeholders to seek the heads of these castle rustlers. They are in the best position to locate and handover their counterparts who are behind these incessant killings. It is not and of course cannot be all the Fulani nomads that are into this barbaric act.

Furthermore, Nigerian Police Force must also engage the service of its State Secret Service (SSS) to further track down these culprits.
