Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has in a communique issued at the end of the 75th Islamic Vacation Course (IVS) held in Kaduna state raised alarm over high cost school fees, unqualified teachers and proliferation of substandard nursery and primary schools in the nation.
The communique issued to newsmen which was jointly signed by MSSN zone ‘A’ chairman Malam Ishaq Muhammad Ishiyaku and IVS organiser Malam Alhasan Lawal revealed that the society has observed that the issue of substandard schools are some of the major factors responsible for the failing standard of education in Nigeria.
The communique further stated that the continued threat of strike action by academic and non-academic staff unions of higher institutions had also portend dangers to the development of education.
Similarly, the communique had also resolved that, regulatory bodies within the educational sector should rise up against substandard schools and also emphasises on fight against quackery in the teaching profession.
The communique also resolved that, there is a need to enact a law that will curb the menace of drug abuse and rape in the society and it also urged Muslim scholars to educate members of their communities on the negative implications of being engaged in both bad habbits.
