The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of its President-General, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has formally announced the result of the 39th edition of the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition, held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State between 20th through 28th December 2024.
The competition, which featured six categories, was organised by the accredited agent of the council on all Musabaqah-related matters, also known as Centre for Islamic Studies, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, on behalf of the entire Ummah in Nigeria.
The male and female winners of the categories would represent Nigeria in all international competitions for year 2025 across the world.
The NSCIA Secretary General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, said this on Thursday in a statement.

He also listed the results of the six categories of the competition, for both females and males, as first category memorisation of the whole Qur’an with tafsir and qira’at (exegesis and reading) in first, second and third positions respectively.
For the male: Bukhari Sunusi Idris, Kano; Nuhu Muhammad, Gombe and Mustapha Muhammad Nasir, Kebbi.
While for the female: Rumaisa’u Dahir Ibrahim, Gombe; Fatima Abubakar Lawan, Kano and Zainab Yazid, Katsina.
In the second category, which is memorisation of the whole Qur’an with tafsir, it was Bilal Hamza Abubakar, Zamfara; Ismail Dahiru Nuhu, Plateau, and Nasiru Dahiru Atafowa, Bauchi; Khadijah Aliyu Ubam, Nasarawa; Zeenat Olawumi Hamzat, Oyo and Hafsa Yakubu Idris, Kano came first, second and third respectively.
For the third category involving memorisation of 60 hizbs of the glorious Qur’an, Abdussalam Rabiu, Katsina; Ahmad Zakariya Salisu, Yobe and Musa Aminu Sokoto were winners of the male category; while Khadija Ibrahim Aliyu, Kaduna; Fatima Musa Ahmad, Borno and Hafsat Ahmad Abubakar, Plateau were winners of the female categories emerging first, second and third in that order.
In the fourth category involving memorisation of 30 hizb of the glorious Qur’an Lawal Jafar, Sokoto; Jabir Dahiru Ibrahim, Jigawa and Muhammad Babagana Aji Kolo, Borno for the male category; while Aishatu Suleiman Isgogo
Kebbi; Khadijah Musa, Kaduna and Jameelat Opeyemi Tijani, Kwara were winners in the female category.
In the fifth category, which is memorisation of 10 hizbs of the glorious Qur’an and tangheem, Mahmud Bashar, Jigawa; Issa Abdul-lateef, Kwara and Abdulmajeed Idris, Edo won the male category; while Sumayyah Umar Sheik, Niger; Rukayya Aminu Yakubu, Jigawa and Hauwa’u Muhammad Bala, Plateau respectively won the female category.
For the sixth and last category involving memorization of two consecutive hizbs of the glorious Qur’an Mohammed Sani Hassan, Ebonyi; Musa Jafar, Enugu and Abdulganiyy Abdulsabur Umar, Edo were winners of male category; and Fatima Bello Abdullahi, Cross River; Zainab Muhammad Hussaini, Edo and Fatima Abubakar Sadiq, Akwa Ibom emerged winners of the female category respectively.
“Consequently, the NSCIA hereby affirms the exclusive eligibility of the above-named winners as the qualified candidates to represent Nigeria at international competitions in the respective categories,” Oloyede said.
He also warned that the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto is the only national coordinating body for the organisation of musabaqah in Nigeria.
He said, “While the right to dual citizenship of any participant in the musabaqah is incontestable, it is improper for any candidate who has participated as a Nigerian in this year’s competition to purport to represent any other nation at any of the international Qur’anic competitions for the same year on the excuse that such nation does not field a candidate(s).
“The council shall not hesitate to initiate severe penalties against any person involved in any sharp practice that can misrepresent the Nigerian nation at any of the international Qur’anic competitions.”
The council also commended all participants at the musabaqah and the donors of vehicles, pilgrimage and other highly valued prizes for the competition winners and prays that Allah reward them abundantly.
“The council expects that all the winners will continue to be worthy ambassadors of Islam and the Ummah in both learning and character,” Oloyede said.
