Nasarawa United to strengthen squad with quality players

Some top-rated players in the Nigerian domestic league who are presently unattached have arrived at Lafia preparatory to signing for Nasarawa United for the concluding part of the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

This was disclosed to our Correspondent by the Technical Adviser of the club, Coach Kabiru Dogo.

It will be recalled that the ‘Solid Miners’ as Nasarawa United are called finished the first stanza of the season in the 20th position on table with a miserable 19 points from 18 matches.

They have won five, drawn four and lost nine matches so far.

Consequently, Coach Dogo is determined to improve his team performance in the second round of the league, hence the need to recruit more quality legs for the relegation fight.

While speaking to our Correspondent, the experienced gaffer said even as Nasarawa United are in a precarious situation, there is no cause for serious alarm as he is determined to change the fortunes of the club in the second round.

He said: “Some NPFL experienced players will start trooping into Nasarawa this Monday (yesterday) ahead of the resumption of the league.”

It is believed in most quarters that Nasarawa United are struggling at the moment because the players in the club were not recruited by the current technical adviser.

Therefore, coach Dogo disclosed that the club’s management is fully in support of his move to inject fresh legs into the team for better performances in the second round.

A fan of the club who spoke on condition of anonymity said: “Personally, I do not blame the woes of the club on coach Dogo because he didn’t recruit the players he is using.

“In any case, he knows the weak areas in the team and he is going to do something about it.

“I am confident he will make judicious use of the transfer window to bring in quality players to complement the effort of players like Anas Yusuf, the leading goal scorer in the league.”

Nasarawa United will play their week 17 outstanding match with Enyimba on Wednesday in Aba.
