The Yobe state government has disbursed the sum of N50 Million cash grant and start-up kits to 500 entrepreneurs trained in production of household Products (Soap, detergents, charcoal, Shoes and disinfectants).
The entrepreneurs were trained by the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to use locally sourced materials to produce their products.
Distributing the start-up capital to the beneficiaries, at Government House in Damaturu, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, said each beneficiary received a cash grant of NGN100,000 and a start-up kit to launch their businesses, for a sustainable income generation.
He said the participants are now equipped with skills to promote self-reliance and local entrepreneurship, adding that the program empowers women and youth, who constitute 70% and 30% of beneficiaries respectively.
According to him, his administration’s commitment is to transform the lives of vulnerable populations through post-conflict recovery and grassroots empowerment for a brighter future of the communities.
SEMA Executive Secretary, Dr. Goje Muhammad, said the Agency has trained and empowers over 2500 SMEs across Potiskum, Fika Fune, Nangere, Gujba and Damaturu Local Government Areas.
