Hoodlums attack worshipers returning from church, snatch phones in FCT

Suspected hoodlums have attacked some worshipers who were returning from church and dispossessed them of their phones at Unguwar Dodo in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.

A victim, Samuel Dangana, while narrating the incident to our reporter over the phone on Monday, said he and three of his neighbours who were returning from church were attacked.

He said they left church around 11:23pm on Tuesday, after prayers to mark the birth of Jesus Christ when some hoodlums numbering 11 suddenly attacked them with knives and daggers.

He said the hoodlums attacked four other residents and inflicted injuries on them and escaped with their phones and undisclosed amounts of money.

“In fact, it was only God that saved me from the hoodlums when one of them pulled out a knife and asked me to hand over my phone and the money in my pocket, which I complied with immediately,” he said.

He said the hoodlums, after collecting his phone, attacked four other people coming after him, including a woman, and dispossessed them of their phones and money.

He said four residents, including a woman, that were injured by the hoodlums were later taken to hospital by vigilantes who later arrived the scene.

“The hoodlums took to their heels upon sighting the headlights on the vigilante vehicle coming,” he said.

Abuja Metro had reported that residents of Unguwar Dodo have decried activities of hoodlums in the area. They always accused scavengers of being behind attacks and phone snatching in the area.

The spokeswoman of the FCT police command, SP Adeh Josephine, said she was not aware of the incident but that she will find out and revert later.
