The Ministry of Works has proposed to spend the sum of N2bn to purchase cars for special advisers to the ministers.
This was contained in the proposed budget President Bola Ahmed Tinubu submitted to the National Assembly.
Daily Trust reports that the ministry proposed N1.07tr expenditure for 2025 with N1.06 to go into capital expenditure and N7.49bn for recurrent expenditure out of which N5.6bn is for personnel cost.
The cars were itemised as ‘Purchase of vehicles for SSAs’ and listed as a new project.
Similarly, the ministry budgeted N1bn for the ‘Asphalting of David Umahi Federal Medical University Road’ while another N100m is for the rehabilitation of roads in David Umahi University of Medical Sciences.
Daily Trust reports that the institution was built when the minister was the Ebonyi State governor but was taken over by the federal government in 2022.
The ministry, which plans to rehabilitate and construct a total of 468 roads and highways across the country also budgeted N10bn for debt payment for completed projects while N5bn will be for judgement debt with another N5bn for payment of legal fees.
While the rehabilitation of Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano section I & III was allocated N100m, the Lagos -Calabar highway and Badagry-Sokoto Super highway were not accommodated in the budget; an indication the signatory projects were not funded through the budget.
