Ogbomoso, Oyo State, was abuzz over the weekend as golf enthusiasts converged for the second edition of the “Oba Ghandi Golf Tournament” at the Ogbomoso Recreation Club. Participants from renowned golf clubs across the country, including Abeokuta, Ibadan, Ada, and Ilorin, competed in the event.
The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, performed the ceremonial tee-off and commended the club’s leadership for maintaining world-class facilities.
Co-Chairman of the organizing committee, Oladejo Akanni, hailed the tournament as a unifying platform promoting excellence through sports. “The camaraderie and sportsmanship displayed were remarkable, and we anticipate even greater participation in future editions,” he said.
The festivities extended beyond golf, with a football competition for the blind and a stage play at Anglican Grammar School, Ogbomoso.
Distinguished guests, including Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy Hannatu Musawa, Governor Seyi Makinde, and Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland Gani Adams, are expected at the grand finale.
The tournament is part of the inaugural Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival, celebrating the city’s cultural heritage and promoting local tourism. Attendees included prominent figures such as Hon. Olamiju Alao-Akala, former JAMB Registrar Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, and Col. Oladipo (rtd).
