Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has approved the rehabilitation of the Calabar Golf Course, signaling a new era for the facility.
The renovations include upgrading the Clubhouse, revamping the golf course, improving the perimeter fence, and enhancing other essential infrastructure.
Captain of the Golf Club, Maj. Gen. Ahmed M. Sabo (rtd), described the initiative as transformative, noting that it would address long-standing challenges, such as trespassers using the course as a thoroughfare. “The governor has begun delivering on his promise to revolutionize golf in the state, starting with the Clubhouse renovation to meet global standards and attract major tournaments,” he said.
The upgrades also feature a new gatehouse, expanded parking facilities, and a modern sprinkler system to maintain the lush greens year-round. Vice-Captain Ukel Agba commended the governor’s intervention, calling it a crucial step in positioning the club as a vital component of Cross River’s tourism and sports development agenda.
