The Women Solidarity Initiative for Development (WOSID) has donated a borehole to the people of Apiawoyi, a Nasarawa community bordering Abuja.
The group also gave various gifts to about 1,000 children and 250 widows in the community to meet their basic needs this festive season.
During the commissioning of the borehole and distribution of items on Friday, the founder/president of WOSID, Chief Marian Nishile, said the gesture was the organisation’s way of reaching out to the less-privileged in the community.
“We want to use this opportunity to appreciate the people of this community for their support to our organisation and farming ventures over the years. The borehole is to provide clean water to the people of the community.

“In addition, we have given food items, clothes and other items to 1,000 children and 250 widows. This is to help them celebrate the Christmas and New Year festivities.”
Nishile said WOSID, which was set up six years ago, also empowers women farmers during the rainy season with seedlings, herbicides, sprayers and more items to enable them to farm.
The Sariki of Apiawoyi, Gaya Shefelo, thanked WOSID for providing the community with the borehole and adding that it would help in supporting their farming activities.
Similarly, one of the women, Martina Joseph, a mother of four, thanked WOSID for providing them with food and clothes to celebrate the season.
“Today, I got corn flour, garri, rice, palm oil, wrapper and more. I pray God will bless WOSID and provide more for them,” she prayed.
