Soldiers have gunned down a bandit who was attempting to pick N9 million ransom at Kurutu forest in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State.
Daily Trust had reported that bandits abducted three herders who were returning from the SCC market to Mai-Iddo village after selling some cows on December 14, 2024, in the area.
The bandits had earlier demanded N30 million ransom and two motorcycles, but the ransom was slashed to N9 million and one bike after intensive negotiation.
A community leader from the area, who confirmed the incident to our reporter via phone on Sunday, said it happened on Saturday around 5:34pm when relations of the herders took the ransom to the bandits in the forest in the area.

He said the soldiers were led by two hunters to the location where the ransom was expected to be picked.
He said, “When the bandit came to pick the ransom, he was gunned down in the process.”
He said the three abducted herders were later rescued, even as he said one of the herders and a hunter sustained bullet injuries during the exchange of fire with the bandits.
The community leader said both the injured hunter and herder were taken to hospital for treatment at Katari.
The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hassan Mansur, could not be reached for comment on the incident.
