Why we rehabilitated Calabar golf course – Gen Sabo

Captain of the Calabar Golf Club, Major General Ahmed Sabo (rtd), has said the golf course has been refurbished to meet global standards and to attract international tournaments and players.

Speaking to journalists over the weekend, the club captain assured that the refurbished facility sponsored by the state government would continue to wear a new look.

Sabo said the general rehabilitation has witnessed an uptick in the facilities, including the playing course, the clubhouse, and other supporting facilities.

He said before now, the club had a recurring problem with trespassers who reportedly converted the course to a thoroughfare.

“At the same time, a new piping system with sprinklers has been installed in the course to handle water reticulation to keep the fairway (playing arena) green and suitable for playing all year round.

“Also, a new gatehouse and car parking lot are being constructed to give the entry point of the club a facelift in line with the Tourism and Sports development policy of the state government,” said Sabo.

The club vice-captain, Ukel Agba, said the intervention has been positioned to reignite golf business in the state and country.

According to him, “Golf is recognized globally as an adjunct of tourism and business, attracting top business leaders, investors, international travelers, technocrats etc.”

Therefore, the club management expressed gratitude to the state governor for the robust support.
