Yuletide: Corps marshal orders use of mobile courts

The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has directed commanding officers to make mobile court operations a critical part of the end-of-year enforcement.

In a statement signed by Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, he noted that the aim was to intensify the corps’ efforts in ensuring road safety and reducing crashes during this festive season and beyond.

Mohammed said the directive became very necessary because mobile court operations would help in promptly prosecuting traffic offenders, to serve as deterrent to potential violators.

He said commanding officers were expected to take responsibility for implementing mobile court operations effectively by working closely with relevant stakeholders, especially the judiciary, to ensure seamless prosecution of traffic rules violators.

He also ordered them to ensure robust engagement and public enlightenment campaigns to educate road users about the importance of adhering to traffic laws.

Mohammed called on drivers and vehicle owners to put their vehicles in good shape and ensure that their vehicles and driver’s licenses are up to date.

He further emphasised the imperatives of observing established traffic rules and regulations on all roads to avoid prosecution as no driver would be spared if arrested going against the law.
