Kwara begins small court claims in business litigations

The Kwara State government said it has commenced operation of the Small Claims Courts (SCC) meant to improve the ease of doing business in the state.

Commissioner for Finance, Dr Hauwa Nuru, disclosed this at the end of a two-day workshop on Tuesday in Ilọrin.

Nuru, who is the Head of Ease of Doing Business Council (EODBC), said the programme gave insights into the concept and how justice could be served on small claims offenders in quick time.

“The establishment and effective operation of SCC is critical in fostering an enabling environment for businesses.

“These courts are designed to provide quick, efficient, and cost-effective resolution of commercial disputes, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)”, she noted.

According to her, the event will not only deepen the understanding of the SCC systems but further reinforce the commitment to creating a steady business ecosystem in Kwara by addressing issues such as regulatory efficiency and judicial reform.

In his address, the guest speaker, Justice Nureni Kuranga said SCCs are recognised by the Nigerian Constitution to provide simple and cost-effective services, with cases being decided within a limited timeframe.
