Man in court for holding police officer’s uniform in Ekiti

The police in Ekiti State have arraigned a 40 -year -old man, Friday Joseph before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti over unlawful assault on a police officer while performing his lawful duty.

He was also charged with reckless driving, the offences he pleaded not guilty to.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that on December 8, the suspect at about 2330 hours at Irona area in Ado-Ekiti, dangerously rode a Bajaj motorcycle with Reg. Number DEK 071 QD on a public highway without license.

The prosecutor added that the defendant, on the same date, time and place unlawfully assaulted one ASP Oluremi Oyeyemi, while performing his lawful duty by holding his official uniform.

Counsel of the defendant, Barrister E. O. Olowolafe, urged the court to grant his client bail, which Chief Magistrate A. Adeosun, granted in the sum of N100,000 with one surety and adjourned the case to January 10, 2025, for hearing.
