The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN), Henry Mbadiwe, says the institute is collaborating with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to create the first project management standards in Nigeria.
He stated that a technical committee has already been set up to begin the process.
Mbadiwa stated this during the induction ceremony of 500 members in Abuja as part of a 3day conference activities of the Institute.
He therefore, called on ministries, departments and agencies and private sector practitioners to get requisite training, certification and licence before practice.

“Every institution of higher learning, association of project management members, according to our Establishment Act, must be licensed before they will teach or train people in project management. This is why we are partnering with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria to create the first project management standards that will even go further to tackle cases of abandoned projects,” he said.
He added that CIPMN created first curriculum medium academic standards and audit project management in some Universities in collaboration with the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Subsequently, the Council Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Project Managers CIPMN, Mr Olabode Afolayan, while speaking at the Annual General Meeting on Thursday says starting from next year, the council’s vision is to ensure they aggressively roll out strategies to tackle rising cases of abandoned projects across the country.
“Going around the country, you see the impact of unqualified individuals managing projects. It is evident in the poorly executed projects we encounter daily. However, with the dynamic leadership of the council, council is determined to enforce existing laws and ensure square pegs are in square holes,” he said.
