Igbinedion varsity VC, Prof Ezemonye emerges as Chairman of CVCNU

The Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, has emerged as Chairman, Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU).

Prof Ezemonye emerged as the chairman during the Committee’s annual meeting held recently.

Secretary General of CVCNU, Prof Andrew Haruna said in a statement that a significant outcome of their gathering was the emergence of Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye as Chairman of the CVCNU.

He said the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, was elected as Alternate Chairman while Professor Tanko Ishaya, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos emerged as (CVCNU Federal) and Professor Kabiru Adeyemo, Vice-Chancellor, Lead City University as Alternate Chairman, (CVCNU Private).

He said other executives were, Professor lbiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University, Ojo as Chairman, (CVCNU State), Professor Ayodeji Olayinka Johnson Agboola, Vice-Chancellor, Olabisi Onabanjo University as Alternate,(CVCNU State).

The Secretary General said Professor Ezemonye assumes the position from Professor Lilian Salami, who is completing her tenure as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin on 1st December 2024.

“His election marks him as the 5th fifth male Vice-Chancellor to serve as Chair. The CVCNU Secretariat extends its best wishes to the new Chairman and all Executive Board members as they embark on their leadership roles,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities plays a crucial role in shaping policies, advocating for the interests of universities, and enhancing the quality of higher education in the country
