CAN declares 3-day prayer for peaceful Ondo gov’ship election

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Ondo State has announced a three-day prayer session to seek divine intervention ahead of the November 16 governorship election.

Anselm Ologunwa, the state chairman of CAN, made this declaration during a gathering of Christian leaders at St. David Anglican Cathedral in Akure on Tuesday.

Ologunwa emphasised the necessity of intercession for a peaceful, credible, and non-violent election, highlighting the crucial role of leadership in shaping society’s future.

He stated, “We need a government that actively advocates for peace and harmony. Economic development and job opportunities must remain a top priority.” The prayer initiative will commence on November 10, focusing on divine guidance and the peace of Ondo State.

Reiterating CAN’s non-partisan stance, Ologunwa affirmed the organisation’s commitment to upholding Christian values above political affiliations, saying, “Our duty is to promote the teachings of Jesus Christ, regardless of political affiliations.”

Earlier, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election, met with the Christian leaders, urging them to pray for the state and a peaceful election.

He expressed his administration’s alignment with Christian values and underscored the spiritual responsibilities of leadership.
