Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that political parties contesting in the election will sign a Peace Accord on November 8 in Akure, the state capital.
The peace accord, coordinated by the National Peace Committee (NPC) and INEC, is part of efforts to ensure a peaceful election process.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja during a quarterly meeting with civil society organisations (CSOs).
Yakubu noted that INEC will conduct a final readiness assessment next week, which will involve stakeholders, officials, security agencies, and transport providers. He also confirmed that the commission has identified potential flashpoints in Ondo State and has informed security agencies to enable effective conflict mapping and preventive action.

Regarding voter readiness, Yakubu reported that out of the 89,777 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) distributed to Ondo State, 64,273 have been collected, marking a 71.6% collection rate. He added that the cumulative PVC collection figures for each of the 3,933 polling units across the state will soon be uploaded on the INEC website, ensuring transparency in result management.
Yakubu also highlighted improvements in the electoral process, including voter accreditation, result uploads to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal, and accreditation for observers and media personnel.
