NBTE approves paramedics’ course for NIS

The National Institute for Sports (NIS) in Lagos has achieved a significant milestone with the approval of the Paramedics Technology National Diploma (ND) program by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

This new mandate allows NIS to train young Nigerians in Paramedics Technology, equipping them to provide emergency medical care to those injured or ill in non-hospital settings, addressing essential manpower needs for athlete welfare and response to occupational accidents and disasters.

Professor Olawale Moronkola, Director-General of NIS, described the development as the fruition of a long-term vision to ensure that the institute fulfils its statutory role in sports development, an effort he emphasized would be incomplete without the integration of medical professionals.

Under Professor Moronkola’s leadership, the NIS has been revitalized, gaining recognition from staff, students, and stakeholders alike. He expressed the institute’s deep gratitude to the NBTE for its rigorous evaluation and eventual approval of the Paramedics course.

The program will now be accessible to candidates through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) this academic session, with a minimum JAMB score requirement of 100 points.

Professor Moronkola further asserted “This will create new horde of professional medical personnel who will be engaged to work with clubs, national teams and sporting Federations. This will ensure quick responses by trained professionals in the event of emergencies.”
