Beyond constructing and equipping five cottage hospitals and other healthcare centers across the states , Gov. Fintiri administration has spearheaded the modernization of the State Specialist Hospital, making it a cutting-edge facility for the state and its neighbors . Key achievements include:
1. **New Laboratory Complex**: A state-of-the-art laboratory complex, one of the largest in Nigeria, is now ready for operation , providing services in public health, virology, and bacteriology etc. This facility significantly boosts the state’s capacity to handle diverse medical diagnostics and research needs.
2. **Infectious Disease Center**: A specialized infectious disease center has been established to address pressing health challenges and to ensure rapid response to public health threats and also serves as an center
3. **Advanced Gynecology Development **: The hospital now boasts of a modern, fully-equipped Obstetrics and gynecology and consultation suite to improve maternal health and cater to the specific needs of women’s health in the state.

4. **Dialysis Complex with Free Services**: In a move to support patients with kidney-related issues, a new dialysis complex has been built and equipped , offering free dialysis services to those in need, easing the financial burden on patients and their families. And, reducing medical tourism for other related kidney diseases.
5. **20-Bed Emergency Unit**: A dedicated, newly constructed 20-bed emergency unit has been added to improve the hospital’s capacity for emergency and urgent care life-saving interventions.
6. **Renovated Surgical Theaters**: Existing theaters have been renovated and fully equipped with state of the art invasive surgery facilities which allows for procedures that reduce recovery time and improve patient outcomes.
7. **Hospital-Wide Hybrid Solar Power System**: The entire hospital building is now connected to a hybrid solar power system, ensuring a reliable, sustainable energy supply. This also includes renovated theater rooms that can now operate uninterruptedly.
8. **Laparoscopic Surgery Complex**: A new laparoscopic surgery complex enables minimally invasive procedures, enhancing the hospital’s ability to conduct advanced surgeries with reduced patient recovery times and fewer complications.
In addition to infrastructural improvements, the government has prioritized manpower development. Approximately 20 specialized consultants have been engaged across diverse fields, including General Surgery, Urology, Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics, and Pediatrics. The administration also plans to send a team for advanced training in laparoscopic surgery in India to further enhance surgical expertise.

The Yola Specialist Hospital has already commenced minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeries, including urological procedures like cystoscopy, biopsy, cystolithotomy, and prostate removal without incisions. All required equipment is in place, with a six-month stockpile of consumables, ensuring consistent service delivery and enhancing patient care.
