Man United finally fire Ten Hag

After a two-and-half years journey, Manchester United have fired Erik ten Hag as the club’s head coach,

The club announced this in a statement posted on its website on Monday, saying Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over as the team’s interim manager.

“Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.

“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited,” the statement read.

According to Daily Mail UK, the decision by United’s leadership team was collective and unanimous.

The Dutchman, 54, has had string of difficulties during his time in charge of the English club.

Ten Hag survived a summer review by the club’s hierarchy after an FA Cup final victory over rivals Manchester City in May.

It came despite United ending last season in eighth place – their lowest-ever Premier League finish – and crashing out of the Champions League before Christmas.

United is currently sitting in 14th place after nine matches.

Sunday’s 2-1 defeat against West Ham proved the final straw for Manchester United’s chiefs, with the club now two draws, three wins and four losses from their opening nine games of the season.
