NGA DG to set up art innovation villages across states

The Director-General of the National Gallery of Art Ahmed Sodangi, has disclosed plans to set up Art innovation villages across the federation.
Speaking to journalists, the DG stated that alongside the innovation hub, the agency will roll out the Art Skills Development and Empowerment Initiative which will offer training and resources to artists and art professionals.

The DG stated these initiatives were being set up in order to help promote and boost the growing Nigerian art space and also aid in meeting up the Ministry’s agenda of contributing over 100 billion dollars to the GDP of the nation.

He said, “Nigerian arts, Nigerian culture, Nigerian heritage is one of the most sought after in the entire world and it is now left for us to capture that moment, take advantage of the creative economy. The NGA has moved to create art innovation hubs across states where artists will have opportunities to have access to art materials, innovation technologies, so that they can compete globally.”

The DG also stated this his tenure would see to the completion of the National gallery edifice.

Sodangi noted that gallery will display the national art collection which is over 4000 works of art.

“We also intend to finish the National Gallery which will be the home of the national art collection. We have highlighted the collection as they are assets of the federal government and the artworks themselves are valued works that are worth millions and billions of dollars.”
