Why we boycotted transition committee sitting – Edo APC

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended its decision to distance itself from the transition committee meetings, accusing the outgoing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government of hindering the process.

According to the APC, Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration failed to provide the necessary documents that would enable a smooth handover.

In a statement issued by the APC Transition Committee Secretary, Barrister Patrick Ikhariale, the party responded to claims by the state government regarding their absence from the meetings.

He said the APC’s transition team, led by former Deputy Governor, Dr Pius Odubu, attended the inaugural meeting on October 18, 2024, but since then, their ability to engage meaningfully has been restricted.

Ikhariale also refuted allegations made by state officials that members of the APC team had requested sitting allowances and were not familiar with using technology, dismissing these claims as false and insulting.

He maintained that the APC had requested documents in both soft and hard copies for ease of use, and that the request had been agreed upon by both parties.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, had accused the APC transition team of being unprepared for the process.

He said that the APC was trying to dictate the transition as if they were still in power, a claim the APC has refuted.
