The Kaduna State Ministry of Health yesterday said it would begin a health awareness campaign and screening of 450,000 residents for hypertension and diabetes.
The Commissioner for Health, Umma Kalto-Ahmed, said the exercise was aimed at empowering communities with vital knowledge about their health.
According to her, the exercise was part of the national health campaign, which targets 10 million Nigerians and will run from October 28 to November 3 at various locations across the state.
“Our mission is to screen10 million people, provide immediate counselling for sub- optimal results, link newly detected cases for treatment in facilities and also raise awareness of hypertension and diabetes.
“We also want to improve data collection of non-communicable diseases for policy, support the creation of state wide hypertension and diabetes registers,” she said.
According to her, hypertension and diabetes are silent threats that affect millions of people. (NAN)
