A suspected motorcycle thief was reportedly crushed to death while trying to escape from by a mob at Gawu in Abaji Area Council of the FCT.
A witness, Danlami Ibrahim, said the incident happened on Wednesday around 4:12pm when the suspect allegedly stole a motorcycle from a farm at Mawogi village in the area.
He said the owner of the motorcycle raised an alarm, which attracted some youths at the farm, who chased him as he tried to flee on the motorcycle.
He said the suspect, upon approaching Gawu village, crossed the expressway without precaution and was run over by a vehicle.
According to him, the suspect was apprehended alive by the mob but some vigilantes took him from them to a hospital at Gawu Babangida, where he died a few minutes later.
A police officer at Gawu division, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying the deceased’s relations came for his corpse.
He said the stolen motorcycle was recovered but it was badly damaged.
He said both the motorcycle and the vehicle that crushed him were in police custody at the division.
