FEC approves N78.350bn water projects in Benue, Jigawa

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a total of N78.350 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of water supply projects in Benue and Jigawa states.

This decision was announced by the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Professor Joseph Utsev, following a council meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday.

The projects include the Greater Dutse Water Supply Project in Jigawa State, awarded at a contract sum of N59.457 billion, and the Rehabilitation of the Buruku/Gboko Water Supply Project in Benue State, valued at N18.893 billion.

Both projects will incorporate solar energy systems to minimise carbon emissions and address climate change concerns.

The Buruku/Gboko Water Supply Project will serve about 506,000 residents in areas that include Gboko, Ushongo and parts of the Buruku Local Government Area.

Additionally, Professor Utsev mentioned that the federal government is taking steps to assess and rehabilitate critical dams across the country to prevent future collapses and mitigate flooding.
