The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the death of a commercial motorcyclist who was killed by a truck in the Apapa area of the state.
The truck, conveying bags of cement from Apapa to an unknown destination, allegedly ran over the rider and injured a female passenger he was carrying.
City & Crime learnt that the rider died on the spot while the female passenger sustained severe leg and hand injuries.
Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, confirmed the incident in a statement yesterday.
Taofiq said the incident occurred at Area B, near Point Road, inward Airways, Apapa in the early hours of Wednesday.

He attributed the accident to reckless driving on the part of the driver of the truck.
“The collision, which occurred in the early hours, was a result of the truck driver losing control due to dangerous driving. The truck rammed into the motorcyclist, who had a female passenger on board.
“Despite the intensity of the crash, LASTMA Officials quickly intervened, rescued the severely injured passenger and rushed her to Apapa General Hospital,” he said.
“Both the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. In coordination with the Area B Police Station, LASTMA officers removed the truck and handed it over to the police for further investigation,” he added.
