Nigeria Health Watch is set to host the 10th edition of its flagship Future of Health Conference on October 23rd to October 24th, 2024, in Abuja.

Chibuke Alagboso, Deputy Director, Media Programmes said that this year’s conference will focus on the intersection of climate change and health, addressing the growing public health challenges posed by the climate crisis in Nigeria.

He noted that the theme, “From Evidence to Action: Building Resilience at the Climate-Health Nexus,” will bring together stakeholders from diverse sectors to advocate for innovative, sustainable solutions to strengthen healthcare system resilience in the face of climate change.

Alagboso emphasised that this year’s Future of Health Conference will highlight the urgent need for climate-resilient health systems, exploring how climate change impacts critical areas such as food security, infectious diseases, and the livelihoods of vulnerable communities.

He added that the event will also aim to amplify youth voices through a pre-conference session designed to elevate youth-led climate-health solutions and initiatives.

Christopher Bassey, Programmes and Events Manager, stressed the importance of addressing how climate shifts influence disease transmission, disrupting ecosystems, and posing risks to health security, particularly among vulnerable populations.

He said that the conference will also introduce the Climate Health Youth Champions, who will undergo a six-month mentorship to further develop their work in promoting climate resilience.

According to Nigeria Health Watch, the goal of the conference is not only to raise awareness but also to drive concrete policy actions.

The 2024 Future of Health Conference aims to be a catalyst for actionable solutions, fostering partnerships that will make a lasting impact on the country’s health systems.
