Rivers United have stormed back to the top of the table after a hard earned 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) week 8 match played yesterday at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna.
Apart from dislodging Remo Stars from the top spot with 20 points, Rivers United are still unbeaten and boast of two away victories so far having defeated Lobi Stars 1-0 in their week three clash in Lafia.
After a barren first half, Seiyefa Jackson, broke the deadlock in the 47th minute when he netted what would prove to be the match winner for Rivers United against Niger Tornadoes.
Although the visitors were later reduced to 10-men when Emmanuel Nnaji was sent off in added time, the ‘Pride of Rivers’ held on for their sixth win of the season.

However, it was another bad day in the office for Daniel Amokachi’s Lobi Stars who were shot down by Ikorodu City in a six-goal thriller at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena in Lagos.
Lobi Stars’ plan to rebound from the 2-2 draw at home against El-Kanemi Warriors suffered an early setback when Salau Yusuf put the ‘new boys’ ahead in the 2nd minute before Emmanuel Solomon doubled their lead in the 19th minute.
However, in a dramatic turn of events, Lobi Stars drew level before the break when Ifeanyi Assurance scored a brace within two minutes in the first half added time.
But the home side had different plans as Solomon grabbed his brace in the 56th minute before Rivio Ayenwenre sealed Ikorodu City’s second win with the fourth goal in the 58th minute.
While the defeat has left Lobi Stars at the bottom of the table with only six points, Ikorodu City have moved away from the basement for the first time since the start of the season.
In Ibadan, 3SC bounced back from their 0-2 loss at Rivers United to beat visiting Katsina United 1-0. Adam Agba’a Mustapha’s goal in the 68th minute was the match winner for the ‘Oluyole Warriors.’
Meanwhile, Rangers United also recovered from their shocking 3-4 home loss against Kano Pillars to force Akwa United to a goalless draw in Uyo.
