Senate President Godswill Akpabio has slammed past administrations for the present economic crisis plaguing the nation.
According to him, the current suffering and pains were caused by past administrations for failing to take drastic economic policies at crucial periods.
Akpabio spoke during the ’87 Law Class Reunion 2024 of the University of Calabar (UNICAL).
The senate president assured that the present administration under President Bola Tinubu would leave a lasting legacy that would guarantee a better future.
Akpabio, an alumni of the university, reiterated that the difficulties Nigerians were going through resulted from the maladministration by past governments.
“The difficulties we are witnessing in our nation today were not caused by the present administration. These are as a result of years of maladministration.
“Any country that does not have backbone infrastructure does not have something to develop and is not saving for the rainy day.
“So when there is economic malaise such as we are witnessing in the world today, such a country is bound to be affected”, he stated.
He added that “The good news is that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we have hope today, that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
“The things that we are trying to do now is for posterity, not for ourselves. Be assured that this administration will leave behind lasting legacies that will guarantee a better future”.
He told the university management that the ’87 Law Class decided to congregate at the institution to evaluate the state of affairs of their alma mater and see how best they can assist.
Earlier, Akpabio led his old classmates to pay a courtesy visit to the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu.
The Governor, also a UNICAL graduate, assured the ’87 Law Class that the state would partner with them to develop the institution.
“We want to look at what you will do and Cross River State will also partner you and add to whatever you are going to do,” Otu said.
