Adultery: Husband drags suspended Jigawa commissioner to Sharia court

Nasir Buba, the husband of a woman allegedly found with the suspended Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Awwal Danladi Sankara in an uncompleted building, has dragged the embattled commissioner before a Sharia Court in Kano.

Operatives of Hisbah had on Friday announced the arrest of Sankara with a married woman after what it called “intense surveillance” following a formal complaint by her husband.

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State subsequently suspended the commissioner from office pending investigation.

Buba, through his counsel, Haruna Magashi, urged the court to investigate Sankara accused of inappropriate and immoral acts with a married woman.

“The complainant, Alhaji Nasir Buba, has laid a formal complaint before this court that he is suspecting Awwal Sankara of committing an offence and therefore he wants the matter to be investigated,” the lawyer said.

Counsel for the suspended commissioner, Shehu Sadam, told our reporter that the husband filed a criminal complaint against his client, adding that the case was not initiated by Hisbah as many erroneously believed.

He said, “We read so much news on the social media by Kano State Hisbah Board and the complainant is Alhaji Nasir Buba. We heard that the matter would be heard today (Monday) and so we were in court on behalf of our client.”

Neither the commissioner nor the married woman were in court

The judge, Khadi Abdullahi Sarki Yola, is expected to hear the matter on Tuesday.
