Kogi LG Poll: Electoral commission chair commends APC’s performance

Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Mamman Nda-Eri, has praised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for winning all the contested positions in the just concluded local government election in the state.

The electoral body had announced that the APC had swept all the 21 chairmanship and 239 ward seats in the election held on Saturday.

Announcing the results in Lokoja, Kogi state capital, the KOSIEC chairman described the election as peaceful, free, fair and credible.

NAN also quoted Nda-Eri as praising the APC for performing excellently in the election.

“APC performed excellently; it cleared all the chairmanship and councillorship positions, leaving nothing to the other 18 political parties that took part in the election.

“The results declared at the headquarters were earlier declared at the various collations centres by the respective returning officers.

“As chairman of KOSIEC, I hereby confirm the results earlier collated and returned by the returning officers.”

This was just as the opposition parties described the election as mockery of democracy.

Daily Trust had reported how the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) Chairman in Kogi State, Comrade Mohammed Kabir Abdullahi, berated the KOSIEC, over the poor conduct of the council poll.

“This is the biggest mockery in the 21st century. We thought that our democracy has grown, but unknown to us, we are 10 steps backward.

“Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission has once again displayed their incompetency as regards to the conduct of council poll.”

Similarly, the state organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Abdulkadir Ibrahim, alleged that all materials for the election were diverted to unknown destinations.

He said, “I and other opposition [parties] were at the KOSIEC headquarters, Lokoja, to collect electoral materials for our various parties. To our dismay, all the electoral materials were diverted to unknown places. It was a mockery of election.”
