Staff of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) yesterday welcomed the re-appointed Executive Vice Chairman of the agency, Prof. Mohammed Haruna.
The agency faced internal crisis following delay by President Muhammadu Buhari in deciding on the tenure of Prof. Haruna. The subsequent appointment of one of the agency’s directors, Aliyu Adnan as the acting head was celebrated by Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI) as the right step for NASENI.
Armed policemen were stationed at the gate of the agency’s office yesterday as Prof Haruna resumed for his second term in office.
Addressing journalists, Haruna said the most important thing he would be starting with “is accommodating everybody, putting all the things that happened behind us and focus on things that will move the agency forward for the benefit of the nation. We are determined more than before to get new products that will solve the nation’s socio-economic woes; things that will benefit the general populace and transform the rural areas.”
Speaking on behalf of the agency’s management, Nathan Peter Pawa, a Director of Technology Business Development, said the letter given to Prof Haruna for his second tenure stated that his tenure started from April 3, which was immediately after his first tenure ended. “So whatever has happened between then and now is a matter for the government to sort out. For those of us in management, we are happy to have him back as this encourages continuity,” he added.
