Man suffers burns trying to vandalise transformer in Niger

A 22- year-old Tasiu Danlami has reportedly suffered severe burns while trying to vandalize an electricity transformer in the Hayin-Nasarawa Area of Tafa LGA of Niger State.

 Danlami was reportedly taken to Musa Yar’Adua Hospital, Sabon-Wuse for treatment, while his fellow vandal, Abba Salihu (18) was arrested by the police.

 The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said: “On 10/10/2024 at about 0545hrs, police operatives from Tafa Div while on routine patrol with vigilantes within Hayin-Nasarawa area along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway via Tafa, arrested two suspects identified as Tasiu Danlami (22) and Abba Salisu (18) of the same area while trying to vandalize an AEDC transformer.”

 Abiodun said six other suspects were also in police custody for thuggery, disturbance of public peace, robbery, and being in possession of dangerous weapons and cannabis.

 He said their arrests followed the recent report of thuggery, youth restiveness, disturbance of public peace and robbery within Fadikpe, Kutirko, and Angwan-Kanawa in the Gbeganu area of Minna.

 Abiodun said the suspects were seen armed with dangerous weapons, attacking unsuspecting members of the public, residents and shop owners within the areas.

 He listed the suspects as Musa Umar (50) of Kulogbe, a purported youth leader, Sirajo Isyaku (20), and Yusuf Ahmed (18) both of the Kutirko area.

 Others were Bashir Yahaya (20), Shuaibu Mohammed (38) both of Fadikpe, and Usman Adamu (21) of Sabon-Titi.

 He said the items recovered included 25 wraps of cannabis, four handsets, a Knife, a sword, and sticks.
